November 15, 2011 Meeting

Thank you to everyone who attended the last meeting on November 15, 2011! We finalized our Governing Board, had a great show and Tell, and heard from special guest Jenny Vetrone who was invited to speak about Zentangles.

Our Governing Board is as follows:

President: Rosanne Papadimoulis
Vice President: Linda Sekerak
Treasurer: Sue Reusser
Secretary: Judi Workman

Thanks to everyone who brought a piece for Show and Tell! We saw some very beautiful and accomplished art quilts and quilts in progress.

We also reminded everyone there will be no meeting in December!

We discussed the first challenge: Make a Quilt inspired by Zentangles. Jenny Vetrone was invited to talk about Zentangles and brought some very intricate and gorgeous examples of Zentangles. Zentangles are defined as a design made up of patterns put into a unit. The units make the overall design (please see pictures added the Challenges page). Zentangles are traditionally black and white, however if you want to use color, go for it! We decided the quilt itself must be no larger than 18"x 18". Other than that, anything goes.Quilts are due at the next meeting, January 17, 2012.

Next Meeting: January 17, 2012
Agenda:
Make sure you bring your fabric selections for the next Quilt Challenge! We will be doing a Gee's Bend inspired challenge using re-purposed fabrics (pants, shirts, scraps, etc...). Please bring a Gallon Sized Ziplock bag inside a paper bag filled with no less than 8 different fabrics- must be enough for an 18"X18" quilt and each participant must use at least 5. We will swap bags so the only fabrics you will be using come from the someone else. The only components each quilter can add is thread, batting of your choice and a backing- no additional embellishments (buttons, embroidery, beads or the like) and you will not be able to use any of your own fabrics. This Challenge #2 Quilt will be due at the April 17, 2012 meeting.

Thank you again and we hope to see you all at the next meeting!

October 18, 2011 Meeting Notes

Thank you to everyone for coming to the last meeting! We are still in the set up stage, but have made some progress! The first quilt Challenge has been agreed upon- make a quilt no larger than 18"X18" with design based on a "Zentangle". Zentangles are drawings or doodles that are made as a form of meditation (remember the doodles on your book covers from school? Or on the corner of a pad of paper while you're in a meeting? Just on a larger scale). All challenge pieces must be brought to the January 17, 2012 meeting.
Also discussed at the meeting was creation of the website/blog. I have already emailed the Modern Quilt Guild and there is now a link to the Cleveland Chapter on the  Modern Quilt Guild main page! I am also offering to post pictures of your work in the Quilt Gallery, just bring your picture to the next meeting on a memory stick and I will upload it into my laptop to post when I hit the WIFI force field around my house! Also, I will be bringing my camera, so if you want, I can take the picture of your quilt at the next meeting.

Welcome to the Cleveland Chapter of The Modern Quilt Guild! We are just forming and are looking for new members who have an avid interest in the art of Quilt Making. We accept members of all skill levels and will be offering guest speakers to expand on existing skills or to teach new techniques, some with fees for materials. We meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month at Anna's Sewing Center in North Olmsted, OH at 7pm. All meetings are free- we do not collect dues.
